Peaky Blinders at Calke Abbey
Peaky Blinders, the drama gangster saga of world repute.
Calke Abbey is the setting for the house of Tommy Shelby, the head of the gangster clan in this epic drama from the BBC.
Excerpt adapted from an article by The Guardian, March 2026.
Much of the series was filmed in Liverpool, Manchester and parts of Yorkshire. Notable fan pilgrimage sites include the Black Country Living Museum (filming location of Charlie’s yard) and Digbeth Loc in Birmingham, the studio complex founded by Knight where much of the new film was shot.
Calke Abbey’s Grade-1 listed status meant there were strict restrictions on what could go on during filming of Peaky Blinders.
The abbey was mid-renovation during filming, which also didn’t add to its comfort levels. “That place was fucking freezing,” is Murphy’s main recollection of Derbyshire.

It’s in cinemas now and it premieres on Netflix on 20 March 2026
(and note the opening of the trailer starts with the corridor at Calke Abbey that led from Sir Vauncey Harpur Crewe’s bedroom to unused rooms – my picture below)
